Tinahely U-12

Welcome to the Tinahely U-12 Page for 2009.

Training for the U-12 panel started on the 13th of March last and the U-12s have been training regularly ever since. The U-12 coaches for 2009 are Brendan Furlong, Ciaran O' Shea and Willie Furlong.

The team took part in the South-West league in 2009 with games against Annacurra/Aughrim, Michael Dwyers, Coolboy, Stratford, Coolkenno and Carnew. The first of these games took place on the 20th of April against Aughrim- Annacurra where we went down on a scoreline of 6.8 to 4.11. The next fixture in this league took place on the 01^st of May when we played Michael Dwyers in Kiltegan. We lost this fixture by 9.8 to 4.5.

We got our first win in this league against Carnew in Tinahely on the 04^th of May winning on a scoreline of 4.8 to 3.5. After this, we played away to Stratford-Grangecon on Monday the 11^th of May where we emerged with a victory on a scoreline of 10.6 to 2.1. We next played Kilbride-Lacken away on a very wet evening winning on a scoreline of 10.6 to 2.1, coincidentally the same scoreline as the Stratford-Grangecon game. Our last game in this league was at home to Coolkenno on the 25^th of May where we emerged with another win. The game away to Coolboy wasn’t played. Michael Dwyers won the U12 South-West league for 2009 beating Aughrim- Annacurra in the final.

On Sunday the 10^th of May, the U-12 players along with other juvenile teams from the club celebrated the 125^th anniversary of the founding of the GAA with a “GAA 125” celebration in the pitch.

Tinahely participated in group B of the all county U12 championship in 2009. The other teams in the B championship were Michael Dwyers, Eire-Og Greystones, St. Kevins, Avondale, Kilcoole, Aughrim-Annacurra, Ashford, Rathnew and An Tochar. Championship results are in the table below.

Tinahely qualified for the final of the U12 B championship when we overcame Eire-Og Greystones in the semi-final by 5.6 to 5.5 in a very close game in Arklow on the 19th of September. In the final in Arklow on the 04th of October, we defeated Michael Dwyers in another close game on a 1.6 to 1.5 scoreline to claim the U12 B championship for 2009.

Our last competitive game for 2009 was on the 16th of October in the South- West championship. We played a strong Blessington team under lights in Baltinglass and lost this fixture by 5.10 to 1.4. We were missing a number of key players on the night but great credit is due to all the players involved who tried hard until the end of the game.

As the season draws to a close, the U12 coaches wish to thank all players for their committment during the year and a special word of thanks to all parents and families for their support also.
