This is a very special trophy that the ladies play for every year and this year we hoped to make a tournament out of it. With both Arklow and Coolkenno travelling to take part, the two vistors were first up to play with Arklow coming out on top, Tinahely then took to the field to play Arklow which Tinahely won on a score line of 1-8 to Arklow's 0-1, with a loss for both Arklow and Coolkenno it was Coolkenno to try claim a final spot but Tinahley stood firm on their home soil and defeated Coolkenno on a score line of 3-8 to Coolkenno 0-1. This meant it was going to be a Tinahely V Arklow Final to play for the Ellen Kinch Memorial Cup.
The final was not the best display of football but alot was to do with the surface of the pitch and the weather. The rain never let up for the ladies the whole day and the pitch had taken alot of water which made conditions hard to play in but the Ladies knew they were not letting go of this special trophy without a fight. Lucy Mulhall played some outstanding football and the conditions did not seem to bother her as she netted 2-2 of the overall 4-6. The defence stood firm once again with Arklow only registering 0-1. Well done Ladies
Tea and sandwiches were served in the community hall after and Tinahely would like to thank everyone that helped out and also thanks to the teams who travelled both Coolkenno and Arklow for making the day possible.
We hope to make this a yearly tournament and hope to get more teams involved next year to play for this special trophy.
