Tinahely V Arklow

Tinahely 3-17 V Arklow 1-4
20/05/2009 - 19:30
Venue: Shillelagh Championship Quarter Final

The ladies got their first championship game off to a flying start in Shillelagh with a great victory over Arklow.  Right from the start you could see that Tinahely wanted to go one step further in the Junior A championship this year after being defeated at the stage by St Pats last year.  Right from the throw up the girls were taking great scores with a full forward line on fire of Lucy Mulhall, Laura Hogan and Lorraine Dunne.  Lorraine Dunne was very accurate in her free taking and with Hogan and Loretta Gilbert linking up well on a couple of occasions the ladies got a nice lead to settle them into play.  The girls once again never let off the gas and never allowed Arklow get to grips with the game.  The second half ran very well for the girls.  Our defence stood firm also all during the game with only 3 points from Arklow untill the ref saw something he was not too happy with and awarded Arklow a peno.  It was a well taken penealty and Arklow had registered 1-3 and with 10 minutes remaining Tinahely notched on another few scores with Arklow taking one last point.  A good performace from the ladies that now set them up with a semi final against St Pats.  Can the ladies overcome this team that knocked them out in the first round of the championship last year??  We will have to wait and see!!
